Will Parquette sent in a great tip for keeping your Guitar Amp and Speaker cabinets 'good as new' !
I have a tip for making old amp cabinets look new -
  • remove all hardware
  • clean any rusted hardware with CLR (calcium-lime-rust remover) liquid and 4-0 grade steel wool
  • vacuum interior of cabinet and grillcloth
  • wash the vinyl covering with mild dish soap and warm water
  • dry thoroughly
  • coat the vinyl surface with Armour All spray protectant
  • buff with clean cloth to a bright shine
  • re-install hardware

Your amp now looks great and will bring a better value when selling or trading!

TESTING ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS

Testing Electronic Components If you would like to fix your own (or someone else's) guitar amp, and you're a newbie to electronics. I recently found a really good ebook about how to test electronic components. It's written by Jestine Yong, who is a service engineer himself and has put considerable effort into this resource. Jestine has included detailed photos of components and testing methods so it's easy to understand and follow. It's worth taking a look at. There's a full Testing Electronics Components Review on the AGA site here.

BATTERY POWERED GUITAR AMPS

I live in York in the UK which is a city full of music. Nice you say : ) well yes it is... In fact there's always buskers playing their hearts out all over town, some brilliant - some not so brilliant! but I'm always intrigued by those using battery operated guitar amps. They're very often old battered, rattley sounding old bits of kit connected up to several car batteries which don't make the best of their talents at all.

Well I was recently contacted by Bob Wiley from Ministar Guitars who produce a great little portable guitar amp powered by a rechargable Lithium-Ion battery - the first one I had come across using this type of battery (amp comes with charger by the way).

Bob directed me to his website which is www.ministarguitars.net to check it out.

It's called The Pardner and it produces 20 watts rms of power from it's 2 x 4inch speaker combination - not bad! It has 2 inputs for guitar/mic or CD/Tape and can be easily carried by the included shoulder strap.

It looks to be a substantially built bit of kit so if you're interestd in this type of amp then pop over to the MiniStar website.

Hopefully a few of our local buskers will invest in one : )
